A king size comforter, also called a duvet, is used for warmth and/or decoration. It is the top-most layer of bedding, placed above the sheet and blankets and provides insulation, helping maintain your body temperature as you sleep. A king size comforter can simply be decorative, provide a little warmth, or ensure a great amount of warmth, depending on your needs.
There are two styles of King mattresses available in the United States: King and California King. A King mattress (also called Eastern King) is 78 by 80 inches, while a California King measures 72 by 84 inches. Despite the differences in mattress sizes, most manufacturers of king size comforters offer only one size, which generally measures 110 by 96 inches.
